All vehicle rentals at Plympton are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or when you collect the vehicle. This agreement outlines important terms, conditions, insurance coverage, associated charges, and your responsibilities for the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Renting a vehicle requires:
- To hire a vehicle from Plympton, drivers must be at least 21 years old, though age restrictions may differ depending on the vehicle type. A valid driving license for the appropriate category is required, along with identification and proof of current address. Drivers must also furnish valid payment details and a security deposit, and comply with any extra conditions outlined in the Rental Agreement.
Booking and Payments Process
- Reservations can be completed via our website, by phone, or directly at our Plympton office. A deposit may be needed to confirm your booking. Full payment and a security deposit are generally required upon vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT where applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed through trusted payment providers for your security.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be prepared and must be signed by both parties. When returning the vehicle, it should be in the same condition as when it was collected, taking into account normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. The fuel level should match what was provided at the start of your rental; refueling fees will apply if the level is lower. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please notify us promptly if you foresee a delay. You are responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or other charges that arise during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals include basic third-party insurance. The Rental Agreement outlines full coverage details and excess amounts. Additional insurance options may be available to lower your financial liability. It is advisable to review these options closely. You remain liable for damage or loss up to the excess amount, unless you opt for additional insurance. Any damage resulting from negligence or misuse falls under your responsibility, regardless of existing insurance coverage.
Cancellation and Modifications
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the notice period given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of the Vehicle
- The vehicle must not be used for any unlawful activities. Engaging in racing, rallying, off-roading, or other risky behavior is prohibited. Transporting hazardous materials or substances is strictly forbidden. Subletting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is not allowed. Operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is against policy. The vehicle should only be used for its intended purposes, and it is important to adhere to passenger and weight limits. Driving outside the specified geographical boundaries without prior approval is not permitted.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Cap
To the fullest extent allowed by English and Welsh law, Plympton Car Hire disclaims responsibility for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may arise from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the amount paid for the rental in the past 12 months. This limitation does not apply to liability for death or personal injury resulting from negligence or fraud.

These Terms are regulated by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be handled exclusively by the courts in this jurisdiction.
